Thousands of students in Queensland Celebrates 100 Years of Anzac

Nearly 4,000 students from primary and secondary schools in Queensland's southeast pay homage to the Anzac soldiers in a ceremony in Brisbane Anzac Square, ahead of the 100th anniversary which falls on Saturday (25/4).

The student representatives laid wreaths around the eternal flame, which is headed by the Chief Minister of Queensland, Annastacia Palaszczuk, Opposition Leader Lawrence Springborg, and the Governor of Queensland, Paul de Jersey.

Anzac Day Commemoration Committee president, Arthur Burke, told a crowd of students that youth Queensland, at the time, led in Gallipoli.

"The ceremony today nearly 100 years since the brave soldiers of the Battalion 9, the origin of Queensland, be the first to set foot into the Gallipoli Peninsula," he said.

He continued, "They let the world know that Australia has three attributes of courage, sacrifice and friendship - characteristics on which the Anzac spirit."

While in his speech, Minister Annastacia read a touching letter, which was written by a soldier of World War I.

"War is a collection of individual stories, honor, courage and sacrifice. Many of these brave young women who made the ultimate sacrifice, hardly much older than high school students," the prominent Chief Minister.

Governor Paul talked about the Anzac legend.

"We still show the Anzac spirit. It is, as we said, is a decisive character. It gives us strength, it reminds us of the important decisions that we help and care for each other," the north.

A school in this year's event is 'Australian International Islamic College'.

Students named Afrah Joseph paid tribute to Australian soldiers, both the full duty and which is still in charge.

"Ceremony like this is a lasting reminder of the sacrifices made by the men and women brave who believe that our country is exceptional worth fighting for and defended to the death," he said.
